How to add home theater system to TiVo DVR

Having a home theater system always gives that immense pleasure to watch your favorite content and have the best entertaining experience like you have with your TiVo DVR streaming box on your side. Well, to better up the streaming view, you can easily add up the whole system to the TiVo DVR. Here is the way to add it.

Getting started

Before you head on to follow up the instructions, ensure that you understand the basic connections between the TiVo DVR, TV, and the home network.

Setup instructions

Adding up the home theater system or the AV receiver

You can easily increase the sound from the TiVo DVR by linking the audio from the DVR to an AV receiver or a home theatre system. You can link the video directly to the TV, however, your AV receiver or the home theater system may also support the video connections. If so, then you can easily link the video to from your TiVo DVR to the AV receiver or the home theatre system as well.

Requirements

In the TiVo DVR addition, you probably would have additional AV components in the home entertainment system. These may involve:

  1. A home theatre system or AV receiver with nearby fine speakers.
  2. A video device or a game system.
  3. A VCR or a DVD recorder.

Some of the devices get directly linked to the TiVo DVR to support the TiVo feature and increase the TiVo experience. Other devices don’t link to the TiVo DVR, instead, they link to the AV receiver or TV.

But, there is one principle which you need to remember is that when linking all the devices, ALWAYS link the OUT jack of the device to the IN jacks. NEVER link OUT to OUT and IN to IN.

Stereo Audio

There are some models of TiVo DVR which are white or red stereo output jacks and some will require using a breakout cable. Access the red and white end of a composite AV cable or white and red stereo audio cable to link the TiVo DVR to one of the stereo audio inputs on the AV receiver or the home theater system.

Do remember to turn on the AV receiver or the home theater system and choose the right input when watching any show from the TiVo DVR.

Digital Audio

There is some number of TiVo DVR which are optical digital audio output jacks. If the AV receiver or the home theater system supports the digital audio, access an optical digital audio cable to link the TiVo DVR to the optical digital audio input on the AV receiver or the home theater system.

Do remember to turn on the AV receiver or the home theater system and choose the right input when watching any show from the TiVo DVR.

Video

If the AV receiver or the home theater system supports the video connections, then use up the yellow end of the composite AV cable to link the video from the TiVo DVR to the video input jack on the AV receiver or the home theater system. For better quality, access an S-video cable if the system supports it. If you got the Series 3 HD DVR or TiVo HD, access an HDMI cable or Component Video cable for the amazing high definition video, but if the AV receiver or the home theater system supports the HD video.

If you take the decision to link the video to the AV receiver or the home theater system instead of directly linking it to the TV, ensure to access the same input for the video that you access for the audio.
